Summary
At some stage you may need to bend a length of copper pipe
if you are performing complex plumbing work.
Read through these steps to learn more about this:
1 The two main methods
2 Using a spring
3 Removing the spring
4 Bending a pipe with a machine
Tools
Spring, pipe bending machine.
Materials
Copper Pipe
Step 1 - The two main methods
There are two main methods of bending pipes. One involves
inserting a spring into the pipe to prevent it forming a kink.
The second involves using a pipe-bending machine. The choice
of methods really depends on the size of the job.
Step 2 - Using a spring
Insert the spring well past the point where the pipe
is to be bent. Bend the pipe over your knee to slightly
more than the angle required. Gently ease the pipe back
to the required angle.
Step 3 - Removing the spring
Over-bending the pipe will make removal of the spring easier.
To remove it, insert a bar through the spring loop and give
a slight twist to reduce its diameter.
Step 4 - Bending a pipe with a machine
Usually, the clamp supplied with the machine will handle both
common sizes of copper pipe - 15mm and 22mm. Place the pipe
against the semi-circular former. Insert the correct guide
block and squeeze the handles together until the required
angle is attained.
